New York began growing faster around 1830. It became the main centre of trade in the USA. It was once taken over by the Dutch and renamed New Amsterdam — then the British renamed it again.

Name history

Originally taken over by some Dutch people who renamed it New Amsterdam. Later renamed New York by the British.
